Review - Surströmming flavoured chocolate

13th of November, 2018.

This day stamped a turning point on my quest for experiencing and evaluating all the tasty cacao-based delicacies that this world has to offer. Chocolates are like gifts from the gods themselves, a touch from the heavens into our very own souls, a love letter consigned from paradise to Earth, a proof that life can be simple and sweet.

But today… today, fate tempted me with a path that no chocolate chaser should ever walk down to. A path made of shades of decay and unwholesome satisfaction, a path of corruption and apprehension, a complete trangression of our own faculties.

I was met with a proposal of tasting a crossover of Surströmming with chocolate, a homemade Surströmming flavoured chocolate. A wiser person would have negated any further contact but my ingenuity took the best of me. The impulse of creativity and ambition blinded any possible good judgement from me and my answer ended up being a regretful ‘yes’.

I got my hands on the package enclosing this abomination and I slowly started to unwrap it. The odour seemed fine in the beginning and my curiosity start to grow but then… the smell settled down and the horrors got unleashed.

Who tasted it knows it was not of this world and yet, in my dismay, there it was in the form of small rectangular shapes, disguised as normal chocolate bearings, with an unspeakable smell that shuddered me even more.

The taste was bland and the smell unutterable. There are some doors that are not meant to be opened. There are boundaries that should not be crossed.

I can’t imagine what score could I conceivably give to this other than -6.66, “Ignorance is bliss”.
